We are currently looking for a Bookkeeper to join our team. This position is responsible for handling the fundamental aspects of the company's financial recordkeeping, including, managing accounts payable, processing weekly payroll, managing various union items, recording financial transactions and completing annual tax forms.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Answer phones and take messages – handles main phone line calls
• Collect timecards from all hourly employees
• Process payroll and mail out checks – Direct Deposits, 401K and HSA
• Process ACH Payroll Transactions with bank
• Process and print union reports including monthly fringe benefit payment calculations
• Union reporting including maintaining portability, market recovery and target forms
• Review and Print W-2’s and 1099’s
• Process end of year updates and reports
• Copy, file and enter vendor invoices and mail out checks
• Follow up on returned items for credits
• Request W-9, Workers Compensation and Certificate of Insurance
• Maintain tax exempt certifications
• Maintain office equipment and order supplies as needed
• Maintain employee files

Qualifications

Necessary and desirable qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Proven bookkeeping experience
• Proven experience in processing payroll
• Experience with trade unions
• Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounts payable principles
• Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
• Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers
• Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and accounting software
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work well independently and as a team player

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Associates Degree

Experience

• 3-5 years of experience required
